Beyond Good and Evil 2 will ‘have a major impact on video games’

Ubisoft is confident that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a success, with CEO Yves Guillemot saying that it will have a “major impact on video games” after the company moved into a new office in Montpellier, France.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is one of Ubisoft’s most highly anticipated upcoming releases, though details surrounding the game have been revealed sparingly. Despite this, Guillemot is confident that it will be a transformative title.

After moving offices to a new “ultra-modern,” 12 million euro studio in Montpellier, Guillemot spoke to French site Le Point about the impact the new working space will have on its game.

“The quality of life in this region can be an asset to bring the best talent,” he said. “Montpellier is a very important world studio for us, which has shown the way to innovation thanks to Rayman. Our teams are currently working on Beyond Good and Evil 2, which is likely to have a major impact on video games.”

Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a prequel to the original 2003 game. After having been widely requested for many years, Ubisoft finally revealed that development was underway during E3 2016. Since then, Ubisoft has revealed an early in-engine demo during E3 2017, though we’ve received little information regarding the progress of its development.

Ubisoft Montpellier has most recently been responsible for games such as Rayman Legends and Valiant Hearts: The Great War, so a sprawling open-world game is certainly an ambitious project for the team. Still, it seems that Guillemot is confident that Ubisoft Montpellier is progressing smoothly with its work on the prequel.

Ubisoft has yet to confirm Beyond Good and Evil 2‘s release date, nor the platforms it will release on. It’s speculated that it could launch in time for the next generation of consoles, though Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed if this will be the case.
