A Gwent iOS version has been announced by CD Projekt Red, finally bringing their card game based on The Witcher to Apple’s mobile ecosystem. After spending several years as a PC exclusive, the developers are branching out to mobile devices. You won’t have to wait too long to play it, either—the iOS version of the game will launch for iPhone and iPad on October 29, 2019.
If you’ve never played Gwent, then you’ve probably also missed out on The Witcher 3, and that means that we probably can’t be friends. That aside, this fictional card game was originally featured as a minigame in The Witcher 3, stepping things up greatly from the simplicity of the dice game in The Witcher 2. It was a popular pastime in their flagship role-playing game, so much so that CD Projekt Red elected to develop it as a free-to-play, standalone game in its own right.

The game’s official Twitter revealed the Gwent iOS version today. One might be forgiven for cynically expecting that there would be an awfully long wait after the announcement, but CD Projekt Red seems to have their act together—it is going to be launching the game for iPhone and iPad in just a few weeks.
CD Projekt Red said that it would be bringing Gwent to smartphones earlier this year. The iOS version was expected to be announced before the end of 2019, and it has managed to meet that timeframe. Details about the Android version will be coming at some point in the near future. No price has been announced, which makes sense considering that Gwent is a free-to-play game. Presumably, cards will be sold at the same price as they are on the PC version of the game.
