xQc fans pay TV’s Chris Hansen to ridicule ‘weebs’

The popular host of Dateline NBC’s To Catch a Predator show has been making waves within the gaming community recently: First confirming that he’d be investigating Call of Duty content creator ONLYUSEmeBLADE for an alleged sexual assault, and now for recording a personalized video for Twitch streamer xQc.

Félix “xQc” Lengyel was once a professional Overwatch player, but now he’s hung that moniker up in order to stream full-time on Twitch—a move which has led him to great success, securing over 1.5 million followers up to this point. With some considering Overwatch a game for “weebs” (a somewhat derogatory term for non-Japanese people consumed by Japanese culture), the fan-funded video results in a mocking Chris Hansen weebs comment from the aging journalist.

In the show To Catch a Predator, there’s an iconic line which Hansen utters in some form of “Why don’t you take a seat over there” pretty much every time he reveals his presence to a sexual deviant that he and his team have caught in the act.  The calm delivery and proceeding heart-to-heart conversation, which both precede an ultimate arrest of the perpetrator, has led to the line becoming a popular meme.

This meme frequents xQc’s Twitch chat, so his community of viewers saw fit to pool some money together in order to get Hansen to record a personalized video for xQc. After a brief introduction from Hansen, which makes xQc crack a smile, what follows causes the streamer to burst out in hysterical laughter. Chris Hansen proceeds to say “weebs, why don’t you have a seat right over there,” of course recreating the beloved meme and also taking a jab at the Overwatch community to which xQc used to belong.

Activision Blizzard’s hero shooter isn’t what it once was in terms of popularity, having been eclipsed by battle royale titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends. This sort of stigma certainly doesn’t help the game’s situation. Regardless, you can check out the Chris Hansen xQc Overwatch clip here.
