Mattrick Wanted Microsoft To Purchase Zynga

Former Microsoft exec Don Mattrick has officially left his position as the head of Xbox to serve as the CEO of Zynga, and the mystery behind this sudden change has finally been revealed.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Mattrick was looking to purchase the social gaming company back when he worked for Microsoft. In 2010, when Zynga was dominating the world with casual games, the Xbox boss was hoping to add the company's strengths to to MS's gaming division.

To make a long story short, the deal never went through, but not before Mattrick and Zynga CEO Mark Pincus became friends. Since that time, the've been working on bringing Mattrick over, so it appears the timing was more a matter of coincidence than anything.
