Ion Fury dev suggests user pirates their game: ‘F*** politics’

An Ion Fury developer has suggested that users pirate the game in a now-deleted tweet, signaling what is maybe a level of distaste for the current situation at Voidpoint. While developers suggesting that gamers pirate their games is an occasional occurrence due to certain unusual situations (like stating that it’s a better alternative to buying via G2A), this is a somewhat more unique situation that may well be showing one of the game’s developers breaking ranks.

“If you want to pirate [Ion Maiden], it’s only like 95MB,” read a now-deleted tweet on developer Voidpoint’s official Twitter account. “You should check it out. We worked really hard on it and it’s a cool game. F*** politics.”

If you’re a bit lost as to how this situation developed, it will require rewinding to a few days ago. Users from ResetEra discovered statements made by developers on their official Discord that cast transgender issues and feminism in a negative light. “yeah if you’re trying to decide your child is trans at birth you have mental problems and probably shouldn’t be a parent imo” read one such comment from a developer, verified by Game Revolution in our piece covering these statements.

A number of people at ResetEra and elsewhere were upset about the statements made by Ion Fury developers and the subsequent uproar caused them to issue an apology and donate $10,000 to an LGBT charity.

“We recognize these statements are insensitive, unacceptable, and counterproductive to causes of equality,” a statement to IGN from the developers read. “We unequivocally apologize both for these comments and language as well as for any pain they have caused the gaming community, particularly women and members of the LGBTQ community. We take full responsibility for any damage that has been done to the relationships we’ve worked so hard to build.”

“Moving forward, Voidpoint will institute a zero-tolerance policy for this type of language and all employees and contractors will undergo mandatory sensitivity training,” the statement continued. “As part of our efforts to contribute to the work that must be done to further support these communities, we are donating $10,000 from Ion Fury’s release day proceeds to The Trevor Project. We are also patching Ion Fury ASAP to remove all unacceptable language.”
