Insomniac Games joins PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios

Among all the big reveals happening at Gamescom, Sony decided to share a bit of reveal of its own. Insomniac Games, the developers of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank, and more, are officially part of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios.

In a tweet from the official PlayStation account, the company shared that the prolific game development studio would be joining the Sony family. “We are honored and thrilled to join forces with this legendary developer,” the tweet continues. “Please join us in congratulating our friends and partners at Insomniac!”

Alongside the tweet from PlayStation, Insomniac Games’ Ted Price also wrote a message to its fans discussing the reasons behind the big move. “Our studio vision is to create experiences that have a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives,” said Price. “As we look ahead to our future, we know that joining the WWS (World Wide Studios) family gives us the best opportunities to fully achieve that vision on a much larger scale.”

He continued by saying that they believe Sony shares the same vision as the studio. The rest of the message assures that both studios in Burbank and Durham, North Carolina are still up and running, and will continue their work on “fresh experiences” that is surely coming to PlayStation platforms.

The team has released games on non-Sony hardware like Sunset Overdrive and The Unspoken, but this means that most games made by the studio will be exclusive to the PlayStation platforms. There might be some exceptions here and there like the team’s upcoming Oculus game, Stormland.

While it is easy to see a future for Ratchet and Clank and Spider-Man, given their roots on PlayStation, it may not spell the end for Sunset Overdrive as, despite showing up only on PC and Xbox One, Insomniac owns that IP. As for Resistance, it may be more of a long shot, but “never say never.”
