Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Steam release date window announced

While players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one have known for some time when they’d get to play Capcom’s Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion, PC players have no such luck. Now, Capcom has finally announced that the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Steam version arrives in January of 2020.

Capcom announced the January release window of the expansion’s PC version on Twitter. Notably, the announcement refers to it as the “Steam version,” meaning that the game will remain on the Valve’s service and doesn’t seem to be moving to other services like the Epic Games Store.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne‘s PC release comes out after a shorter delay than that of the base game last year. While Monster Hunter World launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018, it took until August 9, 2018, a little over seven months, for the PC version to finally be released. This time, the wait will for the PC version’s release will only take approximately half that time.

As for why the PC version was delayed, Capcom stated that it was due to the development team’s inexperience with making games on PC. Indeed, the PC version launched with a number of bugs and issues, even though the team had spent more time on it.

Since the release of Monster Hunter World‘s PC version, Capcom has been busy getting it caught up with all the content that’s been added to the console releases. With the latest expansion, it looks like the PC version is once again going to have to catch up with consoles. Capcom has already confirmed that it will be updating Iceborne with further content after it comes out.

Talking to Gamersky at the 2019 Ani-Com & Game Hong Kong festival, series producer Sakamoto Ryusan and executive director Kaname Fujioka stated that Iceborne would be continuously updated with “several large free DLCs.” As with the base game, these free updates will include new monsters. Hopefully, Capcom will find a way to have any of these updates that come out before January come alongside the PC release.
