call of duty: modern warfare killstreaks

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare killstreaks are making a comeback in upcoming entry

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launched back in 2012, killstreaks were replaced by scorestreaks, which were rewarded to players who gathered points from completing objectives as well as earning kills. However, the next iteration of the popular first-person shooter will bring back the old system as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare killstreaks will be returning to its multiplayer mode.

Announced via the official Call of Duty Twitter account, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is not only bringing back your favorite characters from the long-running series, but the killstreak multiplayer system from the Modern Warfare games. For those who may have forgotten the system, killstreaks allowed you to garner advantageous rewards during a match if you killed a specific amount of people within a single life. The more people you killed, the better the reward. It’s more narrow than the aforementioned scorestreaks, which yielded points for a variety of actions.

The post also presented some of the rewards you will be able to grab for your killstreaks. The first is called “Juggernaut” which will let you call in a care package with the Juggernaut assault gear. The second is the “Infantry Assault Vehicle” which is essentially a tank with a .50 cal machine gun mounted on top of it. Lastly, “White Phosphorus” will allow the rewarded player to cover the map with white smoke that will disorient enemies as well as burn them if they get too close.

You won’t have to wait long to see the game’s multiplayer, including the return of killstreaks, in action. On August 1, a full multiplayer premiere will showcase its competitive mode. The reveal will be streamed on Twitch at 10 AM PT.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to launch on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. While it is being referred to as a “reimagining” of the series and shares the same name of 2007’s critically acclaimed release, it is set after the events of the Modern Warfare trilogy.
