Dying Light 2 PS5 and Project Scarlett release confirmed

Dying Light 2 PS5 and Project Scarlett release confirmed

Dying Light 2‘s 2020 release date comes close to the end of the current console generation. As such, some have wondered if the zombie game will release on next-generation consoles as well. It turns out that this will be the case, as Techland has confirmed that Dying Light 2 will release on PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett.

Talking to WCCFTech, Techland’s Chief Technology Officer Pawel Rohleder confirmed that it has been working on bringing the game to next-generation consoles from the very start: “The plan since the beginning of production has been to make Dying Light 2 a cross-generation title,” stated Rohleder.

This revelation raises the question of when the next-generation version of Dying Light 2 will hit. At E3 2019, Techland announced that the game would arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in the spring of 2020. However, both the next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft will not be out by that time.

Sony has yet to give a release window for the PlayStation 5. However, the company stated that it would not be coming in early 2020. Microsoft, on the other hand, has confirmed that its Project Scarlett will arrive during the 2020 holiday season.

With this in mind, Techland may be looking to release the next-generation versions of Dying Light 2 as a launch title for PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett. The fact that these versions were planned from the start seems to indicates that the studio isn’t waiting for the current generation versions to be finished before looking to the next generation.

This announcement marks Dying Light 2 as one of the first triple-A third-party games to be confirmed as a cross-generation title. Most of the big name cross-generation games, such as Death Stranding and Halo Infinite, are first-party console exclusives. Of course, this list is bound to grow as more details on these next-generation consoles are revealed.
