Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer

Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer teases mobile release

The Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer is here! This somewhat surprising release shows us classic Mega Man gameplay with some modern updates for mobile devices. And, if a collected series of leaks are to be believed, we may also be able to play as more characters than just the Blue Bomber himself and his friend Zero.

CAPCOM released the Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer earlier today. It’s an unfortunately short teaser, but it does give us some critical information about this upcoming game. We get to see both X and Zero fighting in 2-D levels; X, in particular, is battling in a level that seems visually similar to the prologue level of the first game in the Mega Man X franchise. We also see what appear to be abilities on the bottom right of the screen with limited numbers of uses and/or cooldowns, which is a change that hasn’t really been seen in the platformer-style Mega Man games to date.

I called this a “somewhat surprising” release as hardcore fans of the franchise have been hearing whispers of a new title being developed for mobile devices. Fan site Rockman Corner has collected a number of details about what we may be seeing in this upcoming game.

The premise is that a virus has corrupted the world of Mega Man X and has blended characters and stages together in a chaotic fashion. The timelines are all messed up, and it’s up to you to set things right. As a side effect, you’ll be able to play as characters from one game in the stages of an entirely different game (and with some pretty interesting gameplay mechanics). You won’t just be playing as X and Zero, either — it’s rumored that you’ll be able to take on the role of multiple characters from a franchise that stretches across more than ten games.

What we see in the Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer is rumored to be the result of one-and-a-half years of development on a new game built on the same engine used for Maverick Hunter X. Apparently, early plans in development allowed players to create their own Reploid, although it’s unknown if those made it into the final version of the game.

The transition from consoles to mobile devices can be worrying, but the developers are apparently aiming for the same quality that you get on home consoles. They also seek to minimize any “gacha” elements, implying that this may be a free-to-play or low-cost release.

For now, Mega Man X Dive has only been confirmed for Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau, but a worldwide release of the game is also rumored to be in the works, along with a possible public beta. We’re sure to hear more about this game in the coming months, so keep your eyes peeled! In the meantime, you can watch the Mega Man X Dive gameplay trailer below.
