Starcraft 2 Pro/Caster iNcontroL has suddenly passed away

Legendary Starcraft 2 professional player, caster, and pillar of the community Geoffrey John Vincent iNcontroLRobinson has suddenly passed away due to illness. The news was announced via his official Twitter account and has come as an unexpected shock to his fans, fellow casters and players, and a community to which he has contributed to.

If you’re unfamiliar with iNcontroL, he was one of the biggest Western players in the Starcraft 2 competitive scene. Hailing from Seattle, Washington, he gained fame with his remarkable Protoss skills in Starcraft: Brood War before eventually transitioning to Starcraft 2.

His Starcraft career was notable, but he was perhaps better known as a caster and commentator in the later years of his life, serving as one of the regular hosts of the web series State of the Game, a podcast hosted by JP “itmeJP” McDaniel. He subsequently created his own podcast called The Pylon Show in early 2018. He also occasionally casted Starcraft 2 events and professionally coached players who were looking for an edge.

The announcement of iNcontroL’s passing was made via his official Twitter:

Robinson had previously spoken about battling an infection and subsequent health issues resulting from that, although he seemed to be on the mend lately. He had hosted a stream just two days ago, playing Apex Legends for three hours with his friends Cobra and DiplomatDota.

Understandably, the gaming community is shocked at his sudden passing, with several of his contemporaries in the industry expressing their condolences.

“At an utter loss for words….,” read a tweet from Overwatch personality Soe Gschwind-Penski. “Absolutely devastating news for all of us who had the pleasure to cross paths with him. A genuine, kind, hardworking trailblazer…he will be sorely missed :/ Rest in peace.”

“One of the most entertaining people to ever be involved with esports. His contributions will be remembered and there’ll never be another like him,” read another tweet from Esports journalist Duncan “Thorin” Shields.

His family has requested privacy at this time as they try to understand what happened and make funeral arrangements. They ask that any fans wishing to honor his memory donate to the Southern California Bulldog Rescue. Robinson had his own bulldog, which he frequently tweeted pictures of.
