Resident Evil Triple Pack announced for Switch

Resident Evil Triple Pack announced for Switch

At E3 2019, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 would be coming Nintendo Switch, joining the previously released Resident Evil 4 port. Now, it has not only revealed the games’ release dates, but it’s also announced that fans will be able to get them as part of the Resident Evil Triple Pack bundle.

Capcom made the announcements on a post on its Capcom-Unity blog. The post reveals that Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 both arrive on the Switch eShop on October 29. The Resident Evil Triple Pack also arrives on the same date, but this time as a physical release. Both Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 will retail for $29.99, while the Resident Evil Triple Pack will go for $59.99.

Even though Resident Evil Triple Pack is coming to retail stores, the bundle actually only comes with the cartridge for Resident Evil 4. Players will still have to download Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 via download codes included in the package.

More than just a collection of three Resident Evil games, the Resident Evil Triple pack represents a very specific and controversial era of Capcom’s seminal survival horror franchise. Resident Evil 4notably  ditched the series’ fixed camera and tank controls for an over-the-shoulder view. More importantly, it started the series’ move toward focusing more on action than horror.

Resident Evil 5 and RE6 continued this trend. RE5 introduced cooperative play allowing two players to help each other, while RE6 moved the series the furthest from its horror roots, losing touch with the latter as it tried to expand on the new elements added by its predecessors.

Despite the negative reputation the later games in this collection gained, the new bundle still represents Resident Evil at its most experimental. As such, fans of the series, especially those who missed these three, should probably look to picking the Resident Evil Triple Pack in October.
