Azsharas Eternal Palace

World of Warcraft’s Azshara world first raid race starts tomorrow

World of Warcraft‘s Azshara’s Eternal Palace world first Mythic raid race starts July 16 on Twitch. Red Bull as well as Method will stream the race on their own channels. Guilds will compete to finish the eight boss raid on its hardest difficulty as soon as it goes live on Tuesday. Pieces and Limit will stream their progress at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London. It will also host eight other guilds streaming remotely. Popular and historically successful guild Method will host its own stream after previously working with Red Bull.

Method and Red Bull had a dispute over who had the rights to broadcast the race, according to Method owner Scott McMillan. Red Bull wanted the guild to exclusively stream on its channel, while Method wanted to keep the race separated from  Red Bull’s channel and branding. After being unable to come to an agreement and learning about Red Bull’s partnership with several other guilds, Method dropped out.

“Method is in the early stages of communicating with other top guilds on a collective agreement that will have the Race to World First remain in the hands of the community,” McMillan wrote. “An agreement that will prevent exploitation of the guilds.” McMillan said the guild’s previous streams with Red Bull brought in six million unique devices and 10 million viewer hours. The streams had more than twice the hours of the Overwatch League 2018 playoffs.

When Method achieved its world first completion of the Uldir raid in 2018, the Twitch stream had over 160,000 viewers. The event brought in the most watched hours of World of Warcraft Twitch streams since the launch of the game’s Battle for Azeroth expansion. Recent races have brought the game to the most watched section of Twitch. Although streaming the race is relatively new in the esports space, the popularity is budding.
