Cyberpunk 2077 character choices and life path detailed

If you have ever played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you know player choice is integral to the game as how you approach a situation can change the outcome of any given quest. It seems CD Projekt Red is taking this facet of gameplay a step further in order to truly immerse yourself with your Cyberpunk 2077 character choices.

In a very brief video tweeted by the Cyberpunk 2077 account, quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz gave his short spiel on how your character’s choices and life path will affect the game. As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to improve and modify your character’s skills. These skills will not only make you stronger, but can potentially open up new paths and options within a quest.

“We have a big variety of different skills that the players can modify as they develop their character throughout the game,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “And, in turn, they can use these skills to discover different paths through the level, to discover different options in quests.”

Life paths are chosen at the beginning of Cyberpunk 2077 during the character creation process. This will determine your character’s origin story, as well as what attributes they will excel at in a way that sounds like an expanded version of what was in Mass Effect.

“For example, you might imagine that if you’re a street kid, you will have an easier time talking to different gangs,” explained Tomaszkiewicz, “Or if you’re a corporate [character], you might have an advantage over people from the corporations since you know how they think and how they operate.”

Some of this seems to be an extension of the recently detailed level progression system in Cyberpunk 2077. In a similar video, level designer Miles Tost discussed that your proficiency with different weapons will increase as you use them. This progress will be reflected in your character’s animation.
