Bulletstorm developer discusses possibility of sequel

The legendary shooter Bulletstorm may be in for a sequel. At least, developers People Can Fly would like to see one. Keeping the game relevant in gamers’ minds between remasters and ports, there’s enough call from the loyal fanbase that a sequel could be considered.

People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski spoke with Eurogamer‘s Robert Purchese in a phone interview and discussed the Bulletstorm IP and plans for the future. Originally released in 2011, Bulletstorm has since gotten a remaster in 2017, and is releasing for the Nintendo Switch. Speaking on Bulletstorm, Wojciechowski said:

“We want this IP to have its second life. We’re still not sure what that means but obviously since this is our IP – we own the IP – and the IP is known and has its fans, we would like to do something about it…There are no immediate plans to come back to this IP, taking into consideration our current effort on Outriders, but if we think about PCF in the longer-run, then obviously it would be awesome to come back to this IP.”

Outriders is People Can Fly’s current project for Square Enix. Though People Can Fly pitched the game and idea, Square Enix purchased the IP and there are currently 220 developers across four sites working on it, according to Wojciechowski. The game will be Square Enix’s big Q3 2020 drop, though not much is known about it, aside from the fact that it’s a co-op shooter.

While all efforts are currently focused on Outsiders, it’s clear that the team at People Can Fly would like to see a return to Bulletstorm. Wojciechowski discussed his thoughts on what the sequel would have to encompass if the company was to move ahead with the idea:

“We just need to think about how to make sure the audience will be bigger than [Bulletstorm 1’s]…and that’s something we would need to work a bit more on going forward with this IP. If…we decide to ever come back to it!”

Bulletstorm is currently available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC through the Epic Games Store. The Switch release is scheduled for this August.
