The Wild West real-time tactics game Desperados 3 closed beta is starting soon. THQ Nordic announced that the game’s closed beta will take place from July 9 to July 21.
THQ Nordic announced the Desperados 3 beta through a new trailer for the game. As part of this, the publisher has also shared a form for any players interested in participating. That said, the beta will live up to the “closed” part as THQ Nordic will only be accepting 500 applicants.
Developed my German studio Mimimi Productions, Desperados 3 is a prequel to the previous games in the series. The game takes players through the early years of protagonist John Cooper as he leads a band of gunslingers in search of his nemesis.

Desperados 3 allows players multiple ways to tackle missions. Aside from engaging in an old fashioned shoot out, players can also opt for stealth, or even go for a less lethal approach. Of course, each member of John Cooper’s band comes with their own unique skills that can favor one play style over the other.
THQ Nordic claims that the game returns to the series’ roots, hewing closer to the original Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive. This should be good news for fans considering the mixed reception that 2006’s Desperados 2: Cooper’s Revenge received. With this in mind, fans will probably be putting THQ Nordic’s claim to the test in the closed beta.
Of course, some fans are likely just happy that a third game in the series is happening at all. A falling out between Atari and original developer Spellbound games put the series on hold for over a decade after the release of the Helldorado spin-off.
Luckily for fans, THQ Nordic acquired the rights to the franchise and are now bringing it back from the dead. Desperados 3 arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime later this year.
