A big highlight of the Nintendo Direct E3 2019 presentation was the new Astral Chain gameplay trailer. This provided another look at the Nintendo Switch exclusive being developed by Platinum Games.
Game director Takahisa Taura, who is known for his work on Nier Automata, and developer Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta series, have teamed up to work on this new action game.
As part of a special police force in a futuristic city, players will work together with a “special living weapon” called the Legion. The Legion allows players to carry out coordinated attacks on one enemy, while also being effective against multiple foes.
Astral Chain will be an action game that encourages both battle and exploration.
The previously announced Astral Chain release date of August 30 remains concrete, so eager players don’t have too long to wait.
Details of the stylist Platinum Games title have been expanded upon, offering eager fans a chance to learn the backstory. Here’s everything we know so far:
The Ark: A massive, prosperous, multicultural city. But disaster strikes when mysterious dimensional gates appear, bringing dangerous alien creatures to the Ark to attack the people and corrupt the land. The Ark police form a special task force, known as Neuron, to face the alien threat head-on.
Humanity’s last chance against invasion is a special living weapon called the Legion. As a rookie Neuron officer, you and your Legion will work together to solve cases and save humankind.
ASTRAL CHAIN gives you full control over two characters at once for thrilling Synergetic Action, courtesy of PlatinumGames. Switch between several Legion types and skills to save the world your way.
ASTRAL CHAIN features character designs by the acclaimed mangaka Masakazu Katsura (ZETMAN, Video Girl Ai), and marks the directorial debut of PlatinumGames’ Takahisa Taura (designer of NieR:Automata). Hideki Kamiya, director of Bayonetta and writer/supervisor of Bayonetta 2, provides supervision.
