Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Rogue One story connections have been revealed during the recent EA Play E3 2019 gameplay trailer. Not only has Forrest Whitaker‘s Saw Gererra made an appearance, helping Jedi Cal Kestis, but there are more bridges to the sequel trilogy in the shape of a K-2SO droid unit stalking Cal in a Tyrant-esque fashion during the trailer’s final beats.
The gameplay trailer, which takes place on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, ties into Saw Gerrera’s operations pre-Rogue One. The Forest Whitaker-voiced character is aiding Cal in freeing the furry gargantuans who have been imprisoned by the Empire.
The trailer also featured an Imperial security droid, similar to K-2SO, which had a hint of Resident Evil 2‘s Mr. X about it. Popping up at the tail-end of the new gameplay demo, the droid — the model of which was previously unveiled during Rogue One — is shown pursuing Cal across the map. It’s unclear if this is going to be a recurring theme during the game, or if this is a brief encounter during the main game.
The gameplay demo provided 15 minutes of uncut footage, showing off Uncharted-esque wall-climbing across Kashyyyk coupled with lightsaber-tinged combat. Cal’s Force powers were also revealed, showing how the young Jedi takes on the Stormtroopers following the rise of the Sith prior to the events of A New Hope.
In the Star Wars cinematic series, Rogue One takes place shortly before the events of A New Hope, focusing on the team who leads the charge against the Empire that brings about the rise of Luke Skywalker. Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order takes place after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which sees the Empire take control of the Galaxy following the rise of Darth Sidious and Darth Vader.
