E3 2019 | Battletoads gameplay revealed in new trailer

The Battletoads gameplay was one of the most exciting reveals during the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference. The news came within a brand new trailer showing off the highly anticipated retro revival that is coming to both Xbox One and PC. The multiplayer brawler will see the classic Rare characters Rash, Zitz, and Pimple return for the first time since 1994 as they battle their way through plenty of cooperative stages together.

Since Rare is busy with Sea of Thieves and their own projects, Battletoads is being developed by DLaLa Studios. They have experience within the genre as they previously put out the mutliplayer brawler Overruled back in 2015. While similar in terms of action, it was very different from Battletoads due to it being competitive in nature and players could directly change the rules of each match. However, the colorful artwork can be seen in their latest work, as they both have hand-drawn art styles.

Battletoads gameplay for Xbox One and PC

Battletoads will release on both Xbox One and PC. Like all of Microsoft’s first-party titles, it will also be available on their Xbox Game Pass subscription service upon release. That means the cheapest way to experience the game come [month] will be to purchase a Game Pass subscription for $9.99 per month.

Originally announced at E3 2018 with just a teaser video, this was the first time we got a good look at Battletoads gameplay. The action is highly reminiscent of past titles, but looks considerably better due to its hand-drawn 4K art. With online and couch multiplayer being supported for up to three players, it seems like a faithful update to a beloved series that has been dormant for all too long. It definitely will help diversify Microsoft’s sizable first-party line-up of exclusives.
