Microsoft Reveals New Console, Dubbed Xbox One [Updating With Everything We Know]

During today's Xbox Reveal event, Microsoft announced the successor to the Xbox 360, which will be called the Xbox One. What do you think of the name? Did Microsoft make the right choice with the branding? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.

Xbox One will allow users to "Snap" other programs and features to their screen, allowing for interactivity and information without pushing TV or other entertainment off screen. On stage, Xbox One displayed a live TV stream of a basketball game, and snapped a fantasy basketball league next to the game.

Xbox One also uses a next-generation Kinect camera. It has a 1080p camera and now understands a lot more information about your body. The camera can read your heartbeat and measures different metrics with different filters.

The Xbox One controller also has dynamic impulse triggers, a newly designed D-pad, in addition to a host of other improvements. Xbox One will also use SmartGlass as a native part of the next-generation platform.

The new Xbox Live is built on Xbox One and will be based on the same membership you have today. 15,000 servers power Xbox Live, but 300,000 servers will be available for Xbox One services. That's more than the computing power available in 1999, according to Microsoft.

Xbox Live brings Skype and what's trending across games and entertainment to your TV. Xbox Live will allow users to capture gaming moments and share them via the cloud. Achievements will become dynamic to display how you play and not what you've done. Developers can also use the worldwide service to tailor their games to the way people are playing.

FIFA 14, Madden 25, NBA Live 14, and UFC will all launch within the next 12 months on Xbox One. These games will use the EA Sports Ignite game engine, designed to "blur the line between virtual and real."

Phil Spencer said on stage that he believes Xbox One will allow the storyteller to excel. Microsoft Studios have all moved onto Xbox One development to showcase the unique capabilities for the platform. All of your favorite franchises will also be reimagined for a new generation. The first shown on-stage was Forza Motorsport 5Remedy Studios have also created a new experience for Xbox One called Quantum Break. Phil Spencer also revealed on stage that Microsoft Studios would release 15 exclusive titles, many of which are brand new intellectual properties.

Nancy Tellem said on stage that TV has always been a one-way street, but Xbox One will change that with recommendations, social interactivity through Xbox Live, and teams around the world who are experimenting with new entertainment projects to be shaped by the Xbox Live community. That even includes Halo which will come to Xbox One as an interactive TV series with the help of Steven Spielberg.

Microsoft also announced an exclusive partnership with the National Football League, including exclusive content and social interactions that will allow viewers to taunt their friends and Xbox Live rivals. Microsoft tech will also be on the sideline for coaches and players during games.

Microsoft closed their Xbox One Reveal event with Call of Duty: Ghosts from Activision and Infinity Ward. All downloadable content for Ghosts will launch first on Xbox One. Eric Hirshberg, Activision Publishing CEO took the stage to talk about the partnership and Ghosts.

Xbox One will launch this year around the world. More details will be revealed at E3 2013 where GameRevolution will be reporting live. Be sure to keep it locked to GameRevolution all throughout the day for additional updates on Microsoft's next-gen console, as this is only the beginning of the torrent of Xbox-related info.
