Apple Arcade PS4

Apple TV PS4 and Xbox One controller support confirmed

At the WWDC show in San Diego today, Apple talked about their new services and changes to current apps, such as Apple TV, and the company has revealed some important new information about Apple Arcade. Apple has confirmed that it will have Apple TV PS4 and Xbox One controller support for its revamped Apple TV service, but even better, it has also revealed that both PS4 and Xbox One pads will be supported with its upcoming Apple Arcade service.

Apple Arcade is Apple’s upcoming game subscription service, which is currently due out fall this year and is intended as a third way to get games on Apple devices, aside from paid and free apps. It will feature numerous original games from legendary developers such as Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy), Ken Wong (Monument Valley), Will Wright (SimCity, The Sims), and Charles Cecil (Broken Sword), including games such as the very Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker-like Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm and Beyond a Steel Sky, the long-awaited sequel to the classic adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky.

While the support for PS4 and Xbox One pads was made in the section of the Apple conference where the company talked about the revisions to its Apple TV service, it did mention the upcoming Apple Arcade subscription at the same time. There is the possibility the support for popular gamepads will only be within regular Apple TV games, but as Apple was proud that Apple Arcade would be supported within the new tvOS 13 operating system it’s highly likely Arcade subscribers will get that support too.

Apple’s own press release merely notes that many Apple Arcade games “will offer support for game controllers,” and that wireless Xbox One and PS4 DualShock 4 controllers make it “even easier for gamers to take advantage of Apple Arcade.” We should find out for sure in the fall when both Apple Arcade and iOS 13 come out.
