Today is a day for some big gaming reveals, but there’s also the news that The Last of Us Part 2 delayed its release date until early 2020. The highly-anticipated sequel to Naughty Dog’s 2013 game The Last of Us was expected by many to be arriving before the end of 2019, but a recent reveal indicates that we may not be getting our hand on the next game in the franchise until sometime in the following year.
The Last of Us Part 2 jumps forward in time a bit and shows the main character Ellie living in a settled community. While there’s still the struggle for survival and meeting basic everyday needs, it seems that the world has settled down to a degree. Ellie is still going to find herself in plenty of trouble and the combat seems much tighter from the gameplay we’ve seen so far. Unfortunately, it seems that Naughty Dog is going to need a bit more time to get everything just right.
“Looks like Death Stranding is about to get announced for a November release,” Mr. Schreier said in a tweet. “The Last of Us 2 was also planned for fall 2019 but I actually just heard it got bumped to early 2020, possibly February? Either way, wild final year for PS4[.]”
At the moment, Mr. Schreier is the only public source on record stating that The Last of Us Part 2 delayed its release date. He’s generally pretty reliable when it comes to these things, but it’s nonetheless information from an anonymous source. As always, take it with a grain of salt.
We can’t say for sure why The Last of Us Part 2 delayed its anticipated 2019 release, but it seems that Naughty Dog wants a little more time to work on their game before getting it out to the world. Hopefully we’ll find out for certain during the rumored May 30 State of Play that will focus on the game.
