Journey PC release date announced

The anonymous adventure game Journey is coming to PC. Publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer thatgamecompany announced that the Journey PC release date is officially June 6, so be sure to pick up a copy and experience the beautiful world in 4k. It is available through the Epic Games Store, giving Epic Games a competitive edge over Steam and GOG. At this time it’s unknown if Journey will be available through competing services in the future.

We’ve reviewed Journey before when it was released for the PlayStation 4 back in 2015. Originally for the PlayStation 3, Journey gained a following for the vibrant colors, minimalistic design, and gameplay that felt almost meditative. Players control peaceful red-cloaked figures and use them to explore the mysterious world. Occasionally you may run into other players, though there’s not much in the way of interaction besides a little sound you can make in-game to try to communicate. If a player has a white robe instead of a red one, it’s probably a good idea to follow their experienced lead. The objective is to make your way through vast, open environments of sand and snow, navigating ancient ruins and gliding around with a magical scarf until you reach the top of a mountain.

Journey accumulated over 100 industry awards and media praises, including a Grammy Award nomination for its score. If you like the feel of zen gaming experiences, thatgamecompany has a library of other offerings that fit right in with the vibe of Journey. The game’s predecessors are Flower and Flow, both of which prominently feature beautiful environments and simplistic gameplay with introspective messages. The company’s fourth game, Sky, is currently in development.

Between the well-deserved praise, Grammy-nominated score, and the updated visuals, the price tag of only $14.99 seems like a great deal to experience Journey either for the first time or to revisit the elegant, secretive land.
