Google Stadia price, games, and other launch details to be revealed this summer

For anyone interested in Google’s upcoming Stadia game streaming service, the technology giant may have some news coming soon. The service’s official Twitter account has confirmed that the Google Stadia price, games library, and launch information will be revealed this summer.

Announced last March, Stadia is the evolution of Google’s Project Stream that allowed players to play Assassins Creed: Odyssey on a Google Chrome browser last fall. The cloud based platform will supposedly let players experience 4K HDR at 60 FPS at launch, without the need for powerful hardware.

The only actual hardware that Google will release is the Stadia controller. This controller connects to the service via WiFi, and will supposedly let players seamlessly switch between platforms without having to reconnect.

So far, aside from Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, id Software’s Doom Eternal is the only game that has been confirmed for Stadia. However, the announcement tweet indicates that Google will finally be revealing the service’s launch game lineup.

Aside from the games, Google will also reveal the Stadia’s pricing. Considering that Stadia is a service, this likely means its monthly subscription fee in addition to the price of the Stadia controller.

In addition to all this, Google is also set to reveal a bunch of other details about Stadia’s launch. At the very least, the company should be revealing when it’ll launch. While Google hasn’t given any sold hints, the launch date will likely be sometime in the fall. This will coincide with the release of a number of big games, as well as the launch of Stadia’s rival service Apple Arcade.

Of course, Google will likely also be announcing where Stadia will be available. As a streaming platform, Stadia relies on Google’s data centers. As such, the service will likely be initially rolling out in countries and regions where these exist. Launching the service far from one of these could be disastrous for the service as it would highlight the biggest hurdle to game streaming, which is input latency.
