Blizzard Donates Money From Diablo III Auction Bug To Children’s Charity

Blizzard has found a way to make lemonade from their recent Diablo III lemons. All of the money made from a gold duplicating glitch in the real money auction houses in the game will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. John Hight, production director for Diablo III, made the announcement over the forums.

"We elected not to roll back the servers in The Americas and are instead working to remove duplicated gold from the economy through targeted audits and account actions (as indicated above) without taking away progress that our players rightfully earned," Hight explained. He also emphasized that 85% of the ill-gotten gold had already been seized.

"We'll also be donating all proceeds from auctions conducted by the suspended or banned players-including all of THEIR sale proceeds that we intercepted as well as our transaction fee-to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals," he added.

This gold-duplicating glitch was introduced to the game last week with a new update, which then caused the auction houses to go offline as soon as the bug was detected. It has since been resolved, and all auction houses are back online.
