As if Vampire Bloodlines 2 wasn’t enough, another RPG based on the franchise is in the works. Bigben Interactive have announced a Vampire The Masquerade narrative RPG that’s being developed by Big Bad Wolf.
Unlike the Bloodlines games, this new Vampire The Masquerade narrative RPG supposedly hews much more closely to the rules of the tabletop RPG. This seems to indicate that it’ll use a version of the “Storytelling System” used by that game.
White Wolf’s “Storytelling System” aims to simulate not just combat, but also a character’s overall existence. In addition to the typical statistics found on most RPGs, the system also adds a number of mechanics that track a character’s virtues, vices, merits, as well as their background. A player then uses the system to factor in all these when making actions with their character.
How developer Big Bad Wolf plans to incorporate this into the game is unknown. Bigben didn’t reveal any additional details about the game. However, Big Bad Wolf’s previous work with The Council hints at a more story focus, less action oriented direction than Paradox’s Bloodlines games. This could be good news then for any fans of the tabletop games looking for a video game that sticks more closely to it.
For anyone who fits this description, Bigben Interactive has stated that it will reveal more information about it at Gamescom 2019. The convention is set to take place from August 21 to 24 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. On top of this, an official Twitter account for the game has been set up as well. So it’s possible that the team may reveal more information about the game there.
Whatever this game ends up being, its existence, alongside Bloodlines 2 seems to hint at White Wolf expanding their tabletop franchise into video games once again. Perhaps fans may even see new Hunter: The Reckoning and Werewolf: The Apocalypse games in the future.
