Wolfenstein: The New Order Will Not Have Multiplayer

GameSpot confirmed earlier today with both Bethesda and MachineGames that Wolfenstein: The New Order will not, repeat, NOT, contain a multiplayer feature.

Like how the series began, this new iteration will be a single-player-only game, and MachineGames is quite excited and honored to be taking on this project.

"It's such a huge part of video game legacy," creative director Jens Matthies said in a video preview. "If there's a video game museum, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It's the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming."

Matthies added, "On a personal level, I played this when I was younger and it was mind-blowing. I never then of course dreamed that I was going to be working with it. It's both an honor and a legacy."

Hopefully by solely focusing on creating a single-player game, MachineGames can ensure that the experience is Wolfenstein-worthy, and not sacrifice some component of the game just so both the single and multiplayer can launch on time. I'd personally like to see more shooters go this route, even though I know such thinking is in the stark minority.
