Mortal Kombat 11 Switch box art doesn’t have the ugly white banner

While the Nintendo Switch is a great system for portability, its limited memory card size makes it hard to enjoy certain titles. And it’s easy to see just what these titles are, thanks to an ugly white banner that appears across the top of some of them. Fortunately, the Mortal Kombat 11 Switch version doesn’t have this problem – but you may want to be aware of its shortcomings anyway.

A Reddit user by the name of GaboTron78 has managed to get a hold of an early retail copy of the game. And good news — it features the full box art in all its glory, with Scorpion striking a battle stance. There is a white banner, but it’s in very small print on the bottom.

Official Mortal Kombat 11 box art for the Switch! (Massive 20 GB download tho) from r/NintendoSwitch

This may not seem like a big deal (and it maybe isn’t), but as NintendoSoup notes, the box art for some game releases looks badly altered because of the ugly white banner that’s been posted in the past. This banner indicates that a supplementary internet download is required to get the game to run. And it’s usually bigger than the 32GB that the general Nintendo Switch memory card consists of.

So, no, Mortal Kombat fans, you don’t have to put up with that banner. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re off the hook. While you can save yourself the 6GB download from the game, you won’t be able to bypass the massive day one patch. You’ll need to download roughly 16GB to get it to run properly. So even if you don’t have the banner to put up with, you still have to deal with its repercussions, memory-wise.

It’s not the end of the world, especially if you’ve upgraded to a bigger memory card, such as the 400GB. But just a word of warning – even if you take the retail route, you’re still waiting a bit to get into a fight.
