Bubsy Paws on Fire delayed

Bubsy: Paws on Fire delayed until May

The latest Bubsy game has been delayed by publisher Accolade. Bubsy: Paws on Fire is now slated to release in May 2019 for the PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Choice Provisions, developers of the Bit.Trip Runner series, is developing Bubsy: Paws on Fire for Accolade. It is the sixth game in the Bubsy series and adds multiple playable characters to the mix. Choice Provision’s previous titles have been well-received, so maybe Paws on Fire will be the Bubsy game we deserve. The game is now slated to release on May 16.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire will be available for $29.99 or $39.99 on PS4 and Switch. The more expensive limited edition version includes a CD soundtrack and a printed player’s guide. Paws on Fire is the second in a revival-of-sorts for the series, following 2017’s The Woolies Strike Back. Unlike The Woolies Strike Back, however, Choice Provisions is sticking to its strengths by developing Paws on Fire as a runner.

The new game is said to have over 100 levels across a number of worlds and themes, as well as a “unique combo system… for every character.” Paws on Fire also has an all-new story that sees Bubsy team up with his sworn enemies, The Woolies.

Bubsy: Paws on Fire was announced in October 2018 and was happy to make fun of itself at the time. A Kickstarter for the game was announced in February 2019 but was primarily focused on adding additional content to the near-complete game. Some of that content included a new playable character, new levels, and full digital OST. The Kickstarter received a lot of flack online and was ultimately unsuccessful.

The original Bubsy game released in 1993, and was legitimately well-received on the Genesis and SNES. Since then its sequels have been poorly received, with Bubsy 3D essentially killing the series for over two decades. Accolade reanimated Bubsy’s corpse with The Woolies Strike Back, and will release Paws on Fire on May 16, 2019.
