Borderlands 3 trailer teases that “mayhem is coming”

Borderlands 3 is officially happening! Following numerous teases of the number “3” and cryptic posts across social media, Gearbox has finally revealed the Borderlands 3 trailer, teasing new characters, a transformed world, and a continuation of the numbered series storyline.

Characters, both old and new, make appearances in the trailer. The teases add some credibility to a recent leak, with both The Beastmaster and The Operative characters making featuring in the trailer.

There are no doubt other new additions and secrets that fans of the franchise will spot. A huge number of detailed models featured in the trailer, each coming together to create the mask shape. What’s more, there are a number of flashing dots which could tease an even deeper message.

The Borderlands 3 teaser trailer ends with the message “Mayhem is coming.” It’s not yet clear what the video’s title, “Mask of Mayhem,” is referring to, but it’s clear that players should expect chaos.

The game has been revealed ahead of the Gearbox Main Theater Show, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow (March 28) at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT. This panel had already been described as having “never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises.” It’s therefore now expected that the newly-revealed Borderlands 3 will be a main highlight, with the show expanding on the announcement today.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford had previously confirmed that Borderlands 3 has been in development since at least 2015. He has also made comments in the past saying that Borderlands 3 on Nintendo Switch is unlikely. However, with rumors of two new Switch consoles swirling, perhaps there’s still a chance.

Despite it not featuring any gameplay or cutscenes, the Borderlands 3 trailer certainly has a lot going on. If you hope to unearth all of the secrets in time for tomorrow’s reveal, you’ll need to give it a few rewatches. Find it embedded below:
