Sekiro Shadows Die Twice gameplay trailer has been released by From Software. The five-minute long trailer is narrated throughout and provides more detail about the game’s systems. The trailer opens by telling us that Sekiro is set “during the closing years of the Sengoku period. A time of near endless conflict and bloodshed.”
The Sekiro Shadows Die Twice gameplay trailer is split into four parts. The story, prosthetic, combat, and progression. The story section shows a character nicknamed “The Wolf” interacting with his master, named “The Divine Heir,” before stepping into battle. We see just how the shinobi comes to acquire his prosthetic arm. The Wolf is charged with abiding by the shinobi code: “If your master is taken, bring him back at any cost.”
This transitions into showcasing the abilities of said arm. Whether it’s using it to grapple, defend, or fire projectiles. At one point, The Wolf seems to extend a shield called the “loaded umbrella” from his arm to counter a blow. The narrator also mentions using the “loaded axe, loaded spear, and flame vent” in battle. The Wolf is able to trick enemies by using items such as shuriken and firecrackers. The combat section provides a more thorough look at The Wolf taking on a variety of enemies. The combat often turns from slow and methodical to fast and deadly in a split second. The narration highlights the importance of posture and breaking it to gain a vital advantage with a “shinobi death blow.” The player must also combat “perilous attacks” from enemies, which are unblockable but can be countered. The progression aspect of the trailer tells us that you’ll gain abilities as you play and will find items “like gunpowder” that will enable in-game upgrades. The Wolf is shown using enhanced versions of the abilities we’ve already seen throughout the trailer, such as large flame attacks and grappling higher.
An aspect shown in the trailer which doesn’t necessarily fit into the four categories is stealth. Across the parts of the trailer, we see The Wolf using bushes, corners, and rooftops to sneak up on enemies. You can even listen in to enemy conversations to acquire information. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice incorporating stealth would be a change from the norm in the “Soulsborne” titles, in which stealth isn’t actively promoted as a method of play.
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice graphical performance has been a focus of speculation. A report from a pre-launch event stated the game would be able to perform at 1080p 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro. The pre-launch event was a source of several detailed previews ahead of the game’s release due to early review copies not being sent out to video games outlets. The game’s previous trailer showed off how the game could perform at 4K 60 FPS. For players wondering how Sekiro Shadows Die Twice will perform on their PC, we can tell you just what you need.
Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is scheduled to be released March 22 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
