PAX East Gearbox reveals will include whatever this is.

Gearbox reveals it will show another unannounced game at PAX East

Borderlands and Battleborn developer Gearbox Software has a few unannounced games up its sleeve. The company seems poised to reveal all at PAX East in a few weeks. A new tweet sees the PAX East Gearbox reveals increase with a screenshot from an unannounced game that is decidedly not Borderlands.

Gearbox has been teasing a Borderlands-related reveal at PAX East for a while now. Fans are hoping it’s the reveal of the long-awaited Borderlands 3. The independent developer and publisher teased a completely different game with a new tweet today.

The new Gearbox game is distinctly sci-fi, with a robot of some kind being operated on. It could be a game being published by Gearbox, which recently published We Happy Few in 2018. We Happy Few has a number of downloadable content packs coming, which this might be for. The tweet’s language is vague enough that it could be DLC for We Happy Few or a brand new title. If it is a brand new game, Gearbox will have another new IP to handle.

Gearbox’s last new IP was Battleborn, a hero shooter that failed to garner attention against Blizzard’s Overwatch. The company has largely been handling re-releases of titles like Bulletstorm and its Borderlands games. Gearbox published Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016 and Duke Nukem 3D‘s 20th-anniversary edition in 2017.

The upcoming Borderlands game has been an open secret since 2015 when Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford described the game as “the big one.” 2K Games, publisher of Borderlands has a “big” game releasing in 2019 and it’s looking more and more likely that it is Borderlands 3. Whatever this recent tweet is teasing could also be playing into 2K Games’ plan, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

The PAX East Gearbox panel is set for March 28 at 2 PM ET. According to the panel’s description on the PAX East schedule, it will have “never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises.”
