Apex Legends 1.05 Update

Apex Legends datamining addressed by Respawn, Battle Pass still M.I.A.

We recently saw some Apex Legends datamining potential reveal some new characters. Rumors of an upcoming new Legend or the launch of the Apex Legends Battle Pass got even more intense yesterday when the Origin home screen was updated to show what appears to be a new character (as seen in our header image). Respawn Entertainment has come out of the woodwork to address the rumors born from Apex Legends datamining — and it’s not all good news.

“There’s lots of stuff that has been datamined from Apex since launch and is swirling around the Internet,” Respawn Entertainment Community Manager Jay “JayFresh” Frechette began in a statement on the /r/ApexLegends subreddit. “We know this stuff is fun to dig up and speculate about, but you should not treat any of that info as a source of truth. There’s stuff in there that is very old, or things we’ve tried in the past and cut–remember our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas–and some of it may be things we’re still building for Apex Legends.”

In short, we can’t really be sure which Legends (if any) uncovered in the Apex Legends datamining are actually going to make it into the game. Developers prototype and cut content all the time and leftover cruft often remains in the game’s files long after work halted on them. “Finding this stuff by no means confirms that it’ll ever come out,” Mr. Frechette continued. “At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumor and the real info will come from us when we’re ready to show off what’s coming next.”

Those of us who had hoped to see the launch of the Apex Legends Battle Pass and the beginning of Season 1 yesterday were understandably disappointed, especially considering the update to the Origin home screen. Unfortunately, Mr. Frechette confirmed that this update was in error and that they’ll be providing details on Season 1, the Battle Pass, and the next Legend “very soon.” For now, we’ll have to watch and wait for new developments.
