Bioshock Infinite prototype

30 minutes of Bioshock Infinite prototype gameplay that you probably haven’t seen

There are almost 30 minutes of Bioshock Infinite prototype gameplay that has just popped up on the Internet courtesy of Brazilian gaming outlet NeoGamer. This YouTube video gives us a look at some of the earliest stages of the game. It opens with a woman who may have been the very first version of Elizabeth and she has a very different look than what we’re used to, that’s for sure.

After the opening moments, we transition to more familiar scenery from Columbia. It all looks correct at a casual glance, but the Bioshock Infinite prototype gameplay has several subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between the development version and the final version of the game that was released to the public. Players with a hefty amount of time in the game will likely notice various different locales as well as changes to important gameplay events; it seems like a good portion of Bioshock Infinite was changed throughout the development process.

Interestingly, we also get to see Elizabeth make use of never-before-seen telekinetic powers. (These were substituted for a different sort of dimension-hopping power in the retail release of the game.) Elizabeth was one of the elements of the game that gradually changed throughout the course of development before settling into the version that we all know and love today.

The Bioshock Infinite prototype gameplay video was uploaded to YouTube by NeoGamer, a Brazilian gaming website with a focus on preserving rare content from video games. A post on the site from May of 2013 covers some of these differences in detail, although we’ve only just recently gotten to see some of them in motion. The site isn’t in English, so you’ll have to make use of Google translate if you’re interested in reading it.

Bioshock Infinite nicely rounded out the trilogy of games set in strange locales with one of the most memorable sidekicks in recent gaming history. This Bioshock Infinite prototype video gives us some nice insights into what could have been; you can watch it for yourself below.
