Resident Evil 2 shipments

Resident Evil 2 shipments hit 4 million, franchise surpasses 90 million sales

Resident Evil 2 shipments have crossed 4 million units throughout the world since launch. Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 2 remake has crossed yet another milestone in global shipments following the team’s January announcement that the game hit the 3 million shipments mark. That’s right, Capcom moved a million copies of the game in just about a month. How’s that for a comeback?

At the moment, the Resident Evil 2 shipments are chugging along happily. In fact, Resident Evil 2 has been the fastest-selling game in the United Kingdom this year. That puts it ahead of quite a few other notable titles. Sure, the Resident Evil 2 remake selling faster than Far Cry New Dawn is pretty okay. What’s amazing is that Capcom’s revival of a classic survival horror experience also beat out the hotly anticipated Anthem and the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3. Big challengers like Metro Exodus and Kingdom Hearts 3 may eventually surpass the survival horror shooter in the long run, but the Resident Evil 2 remake is king of the hill for now.

Capcom chalks up the 4 million Resident Evil 2 shipments to a number of factors. Firstly, the studio really did a good job at putting together a quality product and it shows. Most of the reviews have rated the game pretty highly (including our own review) and fans have also responded favorably to the game. The game currently sits at a 91 Metascore and 9.0 User Score at Metacritic and a 92 top critic average over at OpenCritic. It also sits at Overwhelmingly Positive with 12,000+ reviews over on Steam, definitively showing that it’s not just the critics who love this game.

Resident Evil 2 shipments have certainly been good, and Capcom thinks that it’s on target to match the sales of 2017’s Resident Evil 7 which stands at a cool 6 million units. The strong performance of the Resident Evil 2 remake has brought the franchise to over 90 million units sold throughout its 20+ year history.
