In Japan, Nintendo is planning to release a Pokémon-centric title for the Wii U, and word has it, the game will feature NFC support akin to Activision's Skylanders franchise.

The report comes by way of Serebii, which notes that in the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine, a slew of toys will be released alongside Pokémon Rumble U when the title launches in the region on April 24th. Apparently the toys will make use of the Wii U's NFC support, allowing gamers to play with them on the television screen.

The title will apparently be a small-scale downloadable offering, priced at ¥1800, which is just under $20. The toys are said to go for ¥200 (approximately $2) a pop. Could this be Nintendo's way of testing the waters to see if a larger, big budget game is worth pursuing? Does this concept interest you? Let us know in the comments below.
