Developer Survey Reveals Overwhelming Attraction To PC And Lack Of Interest In Wii U

PC gaming is quickly rebounding to its glory days.

A survey provided by GamaSutra and given to more than 2,500 developers has revealed radical growth in the interest for PC gaming. The poll showed a dramatic rise from the 34.6% of recent years to a staggering 48%. In contrast, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 only managed to obtain 13% of the voting population, while the Wii U captured a measly 4.6%.

Although the poll only shows a fraction of the total market, it's in-line with recent trends. The advanced hardware of PCs allows for a much higher capacity of creativity, and at no point does a PC necessarily become "last-generation". Developers have become turned-off by aging hardware, and may very well be jumping the gun on the PlayStation 4—and perhaps the Durango—since it's PC-based and will require far less resources to port to.

As far as the Wii U goes, there are a variety of concerns that developers have. For one, its unique tablet-style controller is a barrier of entry, especially for studios that are tight on funds. Additionally, its poor software sales make it a high-risk endeavor for the time being. Time can change unfortunate circumstances, but the Wii U has a long way to go before third-party studios are incentivized to make the leap of faith.
