The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 creative director Sebastian Stępień transfers to Blizzard

CD Projekt Red Creative Director Sebastian Stepien appears to have left the Polish-based company for Blizzard Entertainment. The change was noticed by a keen-eyed ResetEra forum user who spotted the change on Mr. Stepien’s LinkedIn page. His LinkedIn page now lists his current role as being a Creative Director at Blizzard Entertainment.

The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are among the projects that Sebastian Stepien worked on in nearly 13 years of service at CD PROJEKT RED. The third core game in the beloved The Witcher franchise was well-appreciated in the gaming world and was improved upon with a mix of paid and free DLC after its release. As for Cyberpunk 2077, this futuristic role-playing game is hotly anticipated by the gaming world at large and is getting closer to being a finished product every day. Even so, it’s can seem a bit unusual for the game’s Creative Director to depart before the project has even had a release date officially announced.

Sebastian Stepien first began his career at CD Projekt Red as a Junior/Specialist/Senior Dialogue Writer in August of 2006. He was promoted to Lead Story Designer in January 2010 before being promoted again to Creative Director for Cyberpunk 2077 in February 2013. He then picked up an additional role as Narrative and Setting Director in July of 2016, juggling those duties with those of a Creative Director up until he reportedly left the company in January of 2019. Mr. Stepien is a graduate of the University of Warsaw.

Although Mr. Stepien is now listed as a Creative Director at Blizzard, it isn’t quite clear how exactly he will be filling that role at the company. For example, Ben Thompson is listed on his LinkedIn page as the Creative Director for the company’s free-to-play card game Hearthstone. We don’t yet know what exactly Sebastian Stepien will be doing at Blizzard, but his 12 years and change of experience at CD Projekt Red are sure to be an asset to whatever project he ends up working on.
