The Samson Satellite microphone has been announced and it looks like a pretty cool device. This pocket-sized microphone promises broadcast-quality audio capture and it may very well be able to deliver on it. Samson has been in the business of building this technology since 1980 and they’ve decided to leverage their nearly four decades of experience into creating a device that gets the job done without breaking the bank.
Whether you’re podcasting, interviewing, or singing your heart out, the Samson Satellite seems well-suited for capturing sounds. This particular device is ready to work with pretty much anything out of the box with its support for USB, Lightning, and 1/8″ cable output according to a press release from the company. Lightning to USB Micro and USB to USB Micro cables are included in the box. It’s a pretty small unit overall, too. It weighs 0.75 lbs (0.34 kg) and has dimensions of 8.6″ (218 mm) x 4.3″ (108 mm) x 1.7″ (45 mm), meaning that it’s an excellent device for taking with you on the go. A patented folding leg design allows users to simply place the Satellite on any nearby surface for comfortable recording.
The Samson Satellite should be compatible with most audio recording software right out of the box, so there isn’t really any worry about having to set up specialized apps to get it working. Dual 16 mm condenser capsules should help make the recording process a smooth experience. You’ll also have the option for switching between cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional pickup patterns so you can record solo or with a group.
Unfortunately, it isn’t yet clear whether or not this particular microphone has the standard mounting screw for microphones. Still, it seems like a pretty robust little device in a compact package. You’ll be able to pick up the Samson Satellite at major retailers carrying audio products starting in May 2019 at a price of $99.99 or your regional equivalent.
