There has been rumblings about a remastered version of the first Borderlands game for a few years now, but new developments have indicated that Borderlands may be coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee (via Gematsu) recently rated Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This isn’t too different than what happened back in May of 2017, when South Korea’s rating committee rated a title with the same name for the same consoles.
This time, however, we do have some more information: the new ratings name Blind Squirrel Entertainment as the developer. They have worked on titles such as XCOM 2, Sunset Overdrive, and The Sims 4.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the original Borderlands were to get a remaster. Both follow-up titles Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel were remastered for modern consoles as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which was released in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For whatever reason, the first Borderlands was not a part of that remastered collection.
Borderlands 2 was also re-released for the PlayStation VR back on December 14 as a timed exclusive.
Aside from Tales from the Borderlands, which were adventure titles developed by Telltale Games, there hasn’t been a brand new entry in the Borderlands series since The Pre-Sequel came out in 2014.
There have been rumors that a new Borderlands game may be coming in 2019. Gearbox has said in the past there will be another game in the series and have made moves in recent years for a future entry in the series, including hiring people for a potential Borderlands 3. However, no official announcement about the game has been made.
The original Borderlands was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC back in October of 2009. It earned relatively high marks upon release, averaging an 81 score on Metacritic.
