The PS4 Is Real And Here’s Everything We Know [Trailer Inside]

This is the PlayStation 4. Originally codenamed Orbis, Sony's next-generation console has been officially unveiled at PlayStation Meeting 2013. While we're still waiting on some key details, including the system's release date and pricing, we've now got our first Sony-approved look at the console.

Andrew House said on stage that "Every facet of PlayStation will continue to become more powerful" and that "The OS and chipset in PlayStation Vita could bring significant value to gamers in the living room" but that details of PS4-Vita connectivity would come later this year.

Lead system architect Mark Cerny followed House on stage and said that Sony wanted to work with developers on the development of the PS4's system specs. "We were able to create in PlayStation 4 a platform by game creators for game creators."

The PlayStation 4 is made from "supercharged PC architecture," an X86 CPU, a high-end GPU, and 8 GB of unified memory. All of which will be complimented by a local storage drive (as the PS3 launched with). The PS4 will also use the newly designed PS4 controller which features a depth sensor and a touch-panel.

Cerny continued the presentation by revealing that the PSN would expand accross smartphones, tablets, and the web. What's more, players can record live gameplay to share and discuss with friends online. Of course, this was all before Gaikai CEO David Perry stepped on stage.

With the share button on the new PlayStation 4 controller, you can broadcast your game to any and all of your friends. WIth your permission, friends can watch your stream, comment, and even take over your game and assist you on your path to dominance.

Remote play has also been built into the architecture of the PlayStation 4. Following Nintendo's feature set with the Wii U, players will be able to immediately pick up their PlayStation Vita to continue PS4 experiences while someone else uses the TV.

The PlayStation 4 already has a few confirmed titles, notably a new IP called Knack, a new Killzone game called Killzone Shadowfall, a new inFAMOUS sequel subtitled Second Son, a next-gen PS4 exclusive racing game called DriveClub, and more.

Sony also showed off The Witness, a game from the creator of Braid, a new tech demo from Quantic Dream, a new Capcom IP currently titled Deep Down, and a new demo of the Ubisoft game Watch_Dogs. Sony also revealed that Bungie's highly anticipated Destiny will come to PS3 and PS4 with exclusive content.

The PlayStation 4 will be available this holiday season. We expect to see the console's final design, price, and release date at E3 2013, which GameRevolution will also be covering in force.
