Wargaming Buys Gas Powered Games

Gas Powered Games has been struggling since the start of the year. They had a round of layoffs in January, and even more recently, they canceled their Kickstarter campaign to fund a potential RPG simply called "Wildman." But on this Valentine's Day, GPG has found a new partner to sweep them off their feet—Wargaming, the developer and publisher of the free-to-play games World of Warplanes and World of Tanks.

"Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can't wait to start working with them," said Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi.

Neither Wargaming nor GPG have offered any other statements outside of the press release, but Wargaming did share the following with Joystiq:

"Currently, Wargaming doesn't have any information to share other than that we're extremely excited to welcome Chris [Taylor] and his team to our family and look forward to sharing more about what they'll be working on at a later date."

As we see way too many studio closures and layoffs in this industry, it's very welcoming indeed to see one publisher embrace a struggling studio and help them in their time of need.
