Overwatch Winter Wonderland Event Returns for 2018

Overwatch Winter Wonderland Event Returns for 2018

Blizzard has confirmed the return of the Overwatch Winter Wonderland event. Similar to the previous years, it will run from December 11, 2018, to January 2, 2019.

Blizzard announced the news in a tweet from the official Overwatch account alongside a very short teaser video. The snippet shows a portion of the map Blizzard World transforming into a nighttime setting with Christmas decorations dotting the Hearthstone Tavern. The standard balloons that feature on the map have even changed to be red green and white for the occasion.

Blizzard has already confirmed that there will be no new event game type. This season already has two unique game modes both featured around the winter-themed hero Mei. Last year for the Overwatch Winter Wonderland event, we saw the introduction of Yeti Hunter which pitted a team of Meis against one super-powered Winston on his hunt for meat.

We also saw Mei’s Snowball Offensive return from its initial debut in 2016. This mode pits teams of six Meis against each other on the Versus map Ecopoint: Antartica. In this mode, players need to find piles of snow to load a round of ammo to try to take out other players until only the last Mei is standing.

There is also no news as of yet as to which new skins, emotes, voice lines, and sprays we’ll see making their way to the game. Every event brings a plethora of new unlockables and the two relatively new heroes are just screaming for new skins. Perhaps something like a Santa themed Ashe complete with B.O.B. Rudolph or even a snowed under Hammond could be on the horizon. However, one shirt has potentially leaked one new holiday Junkrat skin.

Speaking of Ashe, if you’ve been having trouble aiming with her, you’re probably not just terrible. Game director Jeff Kaplan himself has confirmed that there need to be a few tweaks to the Hero’s fire when aiming down the scope.
