THQ Nordic Carmageddon Purchase Might Revive The Franchise

THQ Nordic Carmageddon acquisition has been announced. It may be high time to revive a franchise that embraces the finest traditions of the almighty demolition derby.

We now have news of a THQ Nordic Carmageddon deal. The Swedish video game publisher has finalized a deal with Stainless Games, the original developers of the game. Square Enix held the rights to the franchise in the early 2010s in order to produce a new game. Stainless Games later bought back the rights and launched a Kickstarter a couple of years later to create a newer entry in the franchise. Unfortunately, their attempt wasn’t as well-received as one would have hoped.

The THQ Nordic Carmageddon acquisition gives the original developers some serious financial backing. At the moment, THQ Nordic is working with Stainless Games to evaluate the possibility of sequels and new content for this franchise jam-packed with road rage. We may very well see a brand-new game on the horizon thanks to the THQ Nordic Carmageddon deal.

Carmageddon, for those not yet versed in vehicular combat, is a game franchise that’s somewhat similar to the Twisted Metal series of games. Players get to race on the open road, through cities, and in grungy industrial areas against AI or human opponents. The appeal of the franchise is that these aren’t normal races – you’re certainly encouraged to knock your opponents out of the competition as aggressively as you can. The game’s original release in the late ’90s was the center of some controversy due to its violent content.

THQ Nordic has been on a bit of a spending spree lately, stating that they have nearly three dozen unannounced games in the works. Their most recent game is Darksiders 3, the newest entry in the adventures of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse with just a dash of Dark Souls gameplay thrown in the mix.

Unfortunately, we don’t have much more in the way of details other than that. Fingers crossed that we’ll get to see yet another classic game get a modernized remake.
