A successful launch hold the key to any video game looking to make a mark in the industry. CD Projekt Red are aiming for the stars, pitting Cyberpunk 2077 vs. Red Dead Redemption 2 in a battle for acclaim. They not only want top sales, but also top reviews.
During a conference call, CD Projekt Red talked about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, noting that the game’s quality is vital to its success.
“Without a doubt, quality is of utmost importance,” said Adam Kicński, CEO. “We strive to publish games which are as refined as Red Dead Redemption 2, and recent Rockstar releases in general. That game is excellent, by the way, we are rooting for it.”
“What does that teach us?” he further added. “Well, it teaches us that we need to publish extraordinary games, and that is exactly what we are planning.”
Kicński also noted that gamers tend to focus more on recent releases, as they can only focus so much time on video games.
“So it pays to be among the best – that’s how you get a nice fat slice of cake, business wise, and the same cannot be said for the lower leagues” he added.
CD Projekt Red itself isn’t a stranger to critically acclaimed games. The Witcher 3 earned high praise at launch, averaging a 92 on Metacritic.
We gave Red Dead Redemption 2 a 5/5, with reviewer Jason Faulkner saying that “The astounding thing about RDR2 is that there’s not only a staggering amount of story, side quests, and places to explore but that it’s all high quality and doesn’t feel tacked on. The high level of craftsmanship in this game is evident in all its aspects, and it’s genuinely one of the best games of this generation of gaming.”
Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a release date, but is set for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at launch.
