The Fortnite concurrent player count has reached a new, meteoric high. The immensely popular battle royale game reached 8.3 million concurrent players following its debut in the South Korean market. Fortnite is now the game with the most concurrent players ever.
Epic Games Korea announced the news in an interview earlier today. VG247 reached out to Epic Games for confirmation, and a representative confirmed the number, twice. The Fortnite concurrent player count number has more than doubled since February, when the game peaked at 3.4 million concurrents.
Back in August, Epic said that Fortnite had over 78.3 million unique players that month alone. Fortnite‘s success is nigh-on unprecedented, as the battle royale portion of the game has been available for just over a year. Save the World, the original cooperative survival game mode, retails for $39.99 but will become free to play next year. The battle royale component has been downloaded over 125 million times across various platforms, including console, PC, and mobile.
Fortnite‘s South Korean launch will likely push the game’s popularity to new heights, and put even more pressure on competitors. Korean developed PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds (PUBG) has fallen out of the limelight from it’s own record of 3.2 million concurrent players. Unlike PUBG, Fortnite has continued to receive glowing praise from its players for its stability, and general performance. Blackout, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s battle royale mode has found some success as well, whittling away at PUBG‘s player counts as it gains popularity. While Activision hasn’t released any official numbers regarding concurrent players, PUBG has seen a drop in concurrent players since Black Ops 4‘s launch.
Fortnite Battle Royale keeps getting big changes and updates, with the most recent being patch 6.22. That patch introduced a new weapon, the heavy assault rifle, and new NFL skins. Two new limited time modes, Blitz and Team Terror, are running as well.
