Path of Exile PS4 Coming In December

Grinding Gear Games announced that a Path of Exile PS4 port is coming soon. The free-to-play action RPG will be released by the end of 2018, alongside the 3.5.0 expansion on PC and Xbox One.

Path of Exile was originally came out on PC in 2013, and has grown extensively since release. An Xbox One version of the game was released in August 2017. The Xbox One version has received solid support from the developer which has ironed out many of the kinks and other problems the console version had. The PS4 release was announced earlier today with a new trailer showcasing the game’s story, and expansive systems. The trailer can be found below.

Path of Exile is an isometric action RPG in the vein of Diablo and Torchlight. What has consistently set it apart are the various classes, subclasses, and their massive skill trees. The game supports up to six players on PS4, and bills itself as completely free-to-play. Cosmetic items and extra character slots are available for purchase, but are completely optional. The game is well-regarded by its community, and received favorable reviews upon launch in 2013. The PC version is rated at an 86 on Metacritic, while the Xbox One release sits three points lower.

We never reviewed the full release of Path of Exile, but wrote excitedly about the game during its beta stage. Our preview of the full release ended with hopes for the game to come to console in the future, and now five years later it is happening for the PS4. Fans are already hoping for the game to come to the Switch.

The announcement comes after Activision-Blizzard announced Diablo Immortal at Blizzcon 2018. The mobile Diablo has been met with hatred and disdain from fans. Many upset by the mobile Diablo game have already taken to the Path of Exile Twitter and Steam page to mock the rival action RPG. One review simply said, “at least its not Diablo Immortal.”
