Rockstar Mocks US Attorney General Jeff Sessions in Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar has hidden a jab at U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a Red Dead Redemption 2 newspaper. Eagle-eyed fans found a thinly veiled newspaper article in the game that mocks Sessions. The Red Dead Redemption 2 Jeff Sessions Easter egg is likely one of many still being discovered.

Reddit user BromarSharif posted a screenshot of the fictional article from Red Dead Redemption 2 earlier today. The article, titled “Woman Suffrage Debate” is from the Saint Denis Times, Issue 45. According to the game’s article, politician named “Jefferson S. Eshions” spoke against the women’s suffrage movement. Jefferson S. Eshions refers to the current Attorney General, Jefferson Sessions. The context of the jab comes from Sessions’ position regarding women’s rights.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 Jeff Sessions mock-up believes that “women are the evidently weaker sex and unable to think things out coolly and calmly.” “Jefferson S. Eshions” even thinks that giving women the ability to vote would harm the country. In real life, Sessions has largely voted against women’s rights. He ruled earlier this year that victims of domestic abuse and gang violence—predominantly women—had no grounds to seek asylum in the United States. His record has been viewed by many as problematic and harmful to women.

Rockstar Games are not averse to mocking politicians, celebrities, and others in their games. The company has also been in hot water (or hot coffee, rather) because of content in its games. Most recently the studio has been caught in a controversy over crunch during the development of Red Dead Redemption 2. A gun description in the game also references the excessive workload Rockstar developers faced during the game’s production.

Red Dead Redemption 2 released on October 26 to critical acclaim and commercial success. The open-world cowboy-simulator is one of the most successful entertainment properties of all time. It made over $700 million in its first three days on the market. We had high praises for the game, calling it “revolutionary.”
