Dreams Little Big Planet remake from Media Molecule.

Media Molecule Creates a Dreams LittleBigPlanet Level For Its Anniversary

Media Molecule made something extra special for LittleBigPlanet‘s 10-year anniversary. Members of the development studio recreated a LittleBigPlanet level in their upcoming game Dreams. The Dreams LittleBigPlanet level was shown off in a live stream earlier today.

Today’s “Happy Birthday, LittleBigPlanet!” stream from Media Molecule showed off Dreams, the studio’s upcoming title. The developers played the “Little Big Dreams” level, which is intended as a remake/homage to the 2008 platformer. Little Big Dreams recreates the first level of LittleBigPlanet, the game’s hub, and tools like Sackboy’s “Popit” which was used for character customization and more. The Dreams level incorporated four-player co-op, and showed the malleability of the game’s creation tools.

Dreams‘ recreation is pitch-perfect to Media Molecule’s first game. The look of the Sackboys, to their Popit, and the level layout were masterfully executed and open up immense possibilities for Dreams. As is always the case when Dreams comes up, the developers assured that “everything was made in Dreams.” Meaning that all of the graphics, sounds, music, models, and design was done within the game’s expansive toolset.

The PS3-exclusive 2.5D platforming “play, create, share” game was released on October 21, 2008, and was home to a vibrant community of level creators. Media Molecule went on to release LittleBigPlanet 2, which expanded the game’s creation tools to allow for RPG’s, shooters, racing, and strategy levels. The developer then released Tearaway on the PlayStation Vita in 2013 which later was redone for PS4 as Tearaway Unfolded in 2015.

Dreams was announced at the PlayStation 4 reveal event in early 2013. At the time not much was known about it, and most of what was shown was a puppet concert and 3D modeling. The game’s ambitious nature continues to be showcased with levels like “Little Big Dreams” which was made by one of Media Molecule’s employees. Sony has yet to announce a release date for Dreams.
