Konami made the announcement via its official Twitter account on Tuesday. Boavista will, like the other four clubs, put forward a professional team to compete in the PES 2019 esports league ahead of the inaugural event. No official date for when the eFootball.Pro League will kick off has been revealed yet.
“The presence in this competition reinforces the focus on youth, innovation and technology that we want to promote, not only in esports but throughout the club,” Boavista club president Joao Loureiro said in a statement. “Like our opponents, we seek to innovate with this competition that brings real and virtual football closer together in another international presence of the club that we are sure will please our fans.”
Barcelona defender and eFootball.Pro League founder Gerard Pique also spoke of his delight over welcoming Boavista to the table. He revealed how the Portuguese giants would be a solid addition to the competition, and how their inclusion reflected the international tone that the eFootball.Pro League represents.
“By signing Boavista we reinforce the international vocation of our competition. Surely their performance in the league will not leave anyone indifferent,” the Spain international said.
The eFootball.Pro League was founded by Pique and the company’s director Javier Alonso in 2016. It seeks to help the world of esports continue to grow, and offer gamers the opportunity to win prize money from winning the competition. PES 2019, which will be the title used during the eFootball.Pro League, is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
